Is The Crown Season 5 coming to Netflix in May?

No, unfortunately, The Crown Season 5 won’t be coming in May as the show is not present in the list of Netflix releases in May. This is not very surprising because Netflix has announced that the fifth season is going to arrive sometime in November 2022. So, all we can do is wait and watch.

Recently, Tina Brown, who has written two books on the royal family, has claimed that the Royal family is “very unhappy about this season moving forward” and so has made attempts to block filming of the Netflix show, wherever and whenever possible.

“Whenever they can, they stop The Crown filming in locations where they have an influence,” she told The AV Club. “For instance, [Eton College] refused to let them film there, which was undoubtedly about recognizing William’s feelings that, you know, they weren’t going to have it. So they’ve shown their displeasure by making it quite clear that they are not happy, and we’ll give it no help.”

“I don’t think that the next season of The Crown is going to be something that Harry is going to seriously approve of in the sense of the way it depicts his mother,” she speculated. “We don’t know how it will depict his mother. But right now, there’s really nothing that’s come out about their mother that they like.”

The Crown Season 5: What will be the story?

The Crown Season 5 is expected to pick up towards the start of the early 1990s. Those years were quite turbulent for the royal family, with the Queen famously referring to 1992 as her ‘annus horribilis’ due to the breakdown of the marriages of three of her children, Diana and Charles, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, and Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, as well as a fire at Windsor Castle. Public opinion about the royal family was particularly low as the decade progressed, especially during the aftermath of the tragic death of Princess Diana in 1997.

The Telegraph reports Prince William has spoken privately about the series’ alleged intention to portray Princess Diana’s 1995 interview with journalist Martin Bashir. He has previously said the interview should never be aired again, a source has told the publication he is ‘frustrated’ that The Crown may go against his wishes.
