Will there be a Season 6 of The Crown?

Yes! The show’s creator, Peter Morgan announced in 2020 that there will be a sixth season of the series. He said, “As we started to discuss the storylines for series five, it soon became clear that in order to do justice to the richness and complexity of the story we should go back to the original plan and do six seasons, to be clear, series six will not bring us any closer to present-day – it will simply enable us to cover the same period in greater detail.”

Is there a release date for The Crown Season 6?

The Crown Season 6 Plot

The Crown Season 6 is expected to explore the early 2000s. According to a report by Deadline, Season 6 will follow the royal family’s lives up until the early 2000s, and since Season 4 ends with the exit of Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher in 1990, there’s a lot of royal drama that can be explored in the upcoming seasons. In Season 4, the relationship between Prince Charles and Princess Diana also turned cold, so we can also see how they got separated in 1996. The unfortunate year, in which Princess Diana passed away in a car accident is likely to be explored by the nakers in some shape or form.

Another key event that can be shown is Queen’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, celebrating Her Majesty’s 50 years on the throne. Royal relationships will be the center of the sixth season including Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson and Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips. Peter Morgan, the creator, has confirmed that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s romance will be shown in the final season. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he said, “I just think you get so much more interesting [with time]. Meghan and Harry are in the middle of their journey, and I don’t know what their journey is or how it will end.”

“One wishes some happiness, but I’m much more comfortable writing about things that happened at least 20 years ago. I sort of have in my head a 20-year rule. That is enough time and enough distance to really understand something, to understand its role, to understand its position, to understand its relevance,” he added.
