The Empress Season 2 Plot
The new season is expected to carry on the basic premise of the first season, as per the Netflix press release, For now almost 200 years, fans and audiences across the globe have been fascinated by Elisabeth; by her passion, her beauty, and her non-conformist lifestyle. In this six-part series, Netflix gives us a glimpse into the inner turmoil of a young woman far ahead of her time, battling tradition and state conventions and fighting for her individuality and freedom. The royal love story of Elisabeth (Devrim Lingnau) and young ruler Franz (Philip Froissant) is unique.
It’s a story of two young people, battling with their own personal doubts, desires, and inner conflicts as the weight of an entire empire rest on their shoulders. The season is also expected to continue from the final episode, “The God Who Us Has Freedom Sent,” released on September 29, 2022, in which the viewers got to see that, “Elisabeth spends her time partying with Maximilian while Franz is desperate to reconcile with her; Leontine lands in a precarious situation.”
According to Netflix, Season 1 of The Empress ended on a major cliffhanger. Rebellious Elisabeth (Devrim Lingnau) – known as Sisi – finds herself unwilling to conform to the rigid system that governs the royal Habsburg court. When her formidable mother-in-law, Sophia (Melika Foroutan), suggests she return to Bavaria and consider having her marriage to Emperor Franz Joseph (Philip Froissant) annulled, Elisabeth agrees.
She goes so far as to conceal her pregnancy from the man she loves. But as she exits the palace, she runs into an angry mob of protestors. Rather than retreat behind the gates like her husband, however, Elisabeth strides in among them, kneels, and announces her pregnancy publicly. And then… the end. The series cuts to black, leaving you with, like, a million questions: How does the crowd react? Can Sisi still leave Franz? Does she even want to?
