In the seventh season premiere of the popular medical drama, Hill Harper’s sudden exit as Dr. Marcus Andrews, which left many fans confused, has finally been addressed by the creators. If you recall, Harper has been cast as one of the main leads in the series since the show’s debut in 2017. But in the sixth season finale, “Love’s Labor,” the actor was last seen as Dr. Andrews. After hearing that the board was calling an emergency meeting to discuss his second mandate, he decided to resign rather than allow the hospital to fire him again.

During the premiere, fans were quick to point out that in a scene from the first episode, “Baby, Baby, Baby,” directed by Rebecca Moline and written by Liz Friedman & Jessica Grasl for the final season, Dr. Andrews’ whereabouts were noted in a moment between Elfina Luk’s Nurse Dalisay Villanueva and Christina Chang’s Dr. Audrey Lim. “Marcus sends greetings from Spain,” Villanueva tells Dr. Lim. To this, Dr. Lim adds, “Oh! I thought he was at a meditation retreat in Vietnam.” Villanueva eventually responds, “He was and now he’s walking the Camino de Santiago.”

Harper’s absence from the show was announced last year when the actor confirmed that he was making a run for a U.S. Senate seat in the state of Michigan. “I believe that our government should work for the people, be a force for good, and protect our freedoms, and that won’t happen if we keep electing the same type of people to office,” Harper said in his announcement. With the seventh season being the last one, his role will be missed by the viewers, as he was only one of three series regulars on The Good Doctor since its inception through Season 6.

The other star cast who are returning this season includes Richard Schiff as Dr. Aaron Glassman, Christina Chang as Dr. Audrey Lim, Fiona Gubelmann as Dr. Morgan Reznick, Will Yun Lee as Dr. Alex Park, Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo, Noah Galvin as Dr. Asher Wolke and Bria Samone Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen. Kayla Cromer will recur as Charlene ‘Charlie’ Lukaitis, and Wavyy Jonez will play Dominick ‘Dom’ Hubank. Additionally, original cast member Chuku Modu, will also be reprising his role as Dr. Jared Kalu, as the actor was promoted to series regular.

On the other hand, details about the second episode, “Skin in the Game,” have been disclosed as it will premiere on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 10 pm/9c on ABC. The episode’s synopsis reads: “Park tackles a tricky brain tumor; Lea and Morgan adjust to motherhood.” Check out the newly released teaser trailer below:
