Our good doctor Sean is all set to enter fatherhood with his newborn,
With personal and professional relationships approaching a pivotal turn,
Who will not be joining us in the next season? Keep reading to unveil!
Enveloped and shrouded in bewilderment, fans ponder upon the fate of The Good Doctor Season 7. Most of all, fans have pondered upon the fate of a few characters ever since Season 6 hit its finale run. Unfortunately, the network confirmed with heavy hearts that two cast members will not be joining us for Season 7. With no intention to keep you waiting, let’s get straight to the tea.
To our utter dismay, the official network confirmed the departure of two characters from the show. These include Marcus Andrews (played by Hill Harper), and Dr. Danny Perez (played by Brandon Larracuente).
Hill Harper’s Departure
In the Season 6 final scenes, we see Marcus Andrews submit his resignation to the St. Bonaventure Hospital, signing off his duties as a doctor. In reality, Hill Harper, who plays the character, announced himself as running for the Senate in Michigan. Here is what he has to say in his Twitter post.
We can all feel it: D.C just isn’t getting things done for people.
We need representatives who'll take on special interests, get money out of politics, and make our government work for all of us.
That’s why today, I’m announcing my campaign for U.S. Senate in Michigan! ✊🏾 pic.twitter.com/lv11ncDcsK

Brandon Larracuente’s Departure
According to TV Line, Brandon, on the other hand, is written off the show, the reasons for which are unknown. His departure as Dr. Danny Perez is shown as a recovering opioid addict who left to seek treatment in Texas at the end of Season 6.
Barring these exits, it is time to focus on the positives. So, here is a list of the alma matter who will be joining us for the next season:
- Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy
- Fiona Gubelmann as Morgan Reznick
- Will Yun Lee as Alex Park
- Christina Chang as Audrey Lim
- Paige Spara as Lea Dilallo
- Bria Henderson as Dr. Jordan Allen
- Noah Galvin as Asher Wolke
- Richard Schiff as Aaron Glassman
It will be wise to speculate that no formal comments have been made on any possibility of a cast shake-up since the production for the new season has not set foot on the grass yet. Speaking of production, what is the current status of Season 7 of The Good Doctor, and when can we expect it on ABC? Here is our prediction.
The Good Doctor Season 7 Production Status: Has Filming Begun?
As we enter the cusp of the new season release phase month with the autumn leaves crunching beneath our feet, and the fall screening season peering down upon us, when can we expect the much-awaited Season 7 to reach our screens? Warm with anticipation and giddy with unbridled excitement, viewers await the premiere of Season 7 of The Good Doctor on ABC. It might take a while for the new season to knock on doors on the ABC network.
Every year, we await a fresh new fall roaster full of new seasons from titular seasons that promise to make a comeback by fall. However, this year is different. The fall series calendars are empty or are being frantically altered to match current scenarios, or reruns of the previous seasons are being used to fill up the void in order to give the viewers something to reminisce about.
Why, you ask? Well, right about when a domino effect was initiated and resulted in a series of high-demand shows being revived for newer seasons, the WGA strikes took shape in May 2023. While some already had a headstart at the production process, such as Stranger Things, Silo, and others, some other shows like Blue Bloods and Fire Country never got to witness the writers’ inks etch storylines onto their scripts. Within a month, SAG AFTRA voiced in with WGA, resulting in a four-month-long double strike.
However, one new development that might open doors for a quicker release of the seventh season is the end of the WGA strikes, which took place last week itself, providing impetus for shows to resume their script writing. Given that The Good Doctor writer’s room never huddled to brainstorm the next season, now is the time they will probably get back to it. Unfortunately, the SAG AFTRA still continues battling out their rights with the AMPTP, although heated negotiations are underway, and we believe the fires on that will be put out soon as well.
ABC had made a proclamation amidst the strikes that Season 7 would begin production in July if they wanted to achieve a fall 2023 release as per their calendar. However, the channel was soon made to face the grave error of this decision and alter the schedule after two long months. Other competitor channels also followed.
They updated that ABC will not air the new Season of The Good Doctor this fall due to the unwavering delays caused by the ongoing strikes and have instead decided to stick to premieres of seasons of various unscripted shows like Dancing With The Stars Season 32 and Shark Tank Season 15 among others.
So when exactly will Season 7 arrive? Here is our prediction.
The Good Doctor Season 7 Expected Release Date: Best Case Scenario
While the following prediction that we will make is not set in stone, it will provide the nervous viewers with a degree of solace and a specific time window to look forward to. Mind you. This prediction may alter as new updates on the ongoing strikes surface, so keep an open mind going forward.
Assuming that the SAG AFTRA strikes meet their end within October 2023, and The Good Doctor Season 7 kicks start into production, we can expect the new Season to arrive somewhere in the mid-2024 timeline, which includes the first quarter of 2024 and includes the months of January, February, March, and April. Our predictions rely heavily between March and April 2024, given that the scripts will be ready soon. This is not the road solely taken by ABC for The Good Doctor Season 7, but it holds true of every other release that was supposed to debut in the fall of 2023.
As more concrete news blows our way, we will surely update this space.
What Will The Good Doctor Season 7 Be All About?
Fans have been frolicking over the prospect of a brand new season of The Good Doctor ever since The Good Doctor Season 6 finale left us in the throes of a massive cliffhanger. Well, looks like the good news is in order! Our favorite doctors are officially set to return to our screens after ABC Network renewed Good Doctor Season 7 on April 19, 2023! So buckle up and get ready for the ride because Season 7 is set to bring in more medical mysteries, medical marvels, deep-seated contentions in personal relationships, character developments, and budding romances, as well as prospective heartbreaks.
We have been on a roller coaster ride of emotions for The Good Doctor, and we are guessing Season 7 will prove to be nothing less. This is supported by the numerous accolades the series has received over the years. The series ranks as the #1 entertainment series in Monday’s 10 pm hour this season in Adults 18-49, tying NBC’s Quantum Leap. Furthermore, the series is up 478% after 35 days of multiplatform viewing, nearly six times its original Live+Same Day rating among Adults 18-49 this season.
The official synopsis of the popular medical drama reads, “Shaun Murphy, a young surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, relocates from a quiet country life to join a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit. Unable to personally connect with those around him, Shaun uses his extraordinary medical gifts to save lives and challenge the skepticism of his colleagues.”
Season 7 will be broadly based on this premise and will likely pick up from the cliffhanger that the Season 6 finale left us in. We can expect Season 7 to bring in the big guns with more complicated medical conditions and challenges for an autistic savant syndrome doctor, Shaun, and his medical colleagues, as well as stretching into the complicated personal relationships between them.
For instance, Season 7 can focus more on Sean’s personal relationship and his transition to fatherhood as a doctor with Down syndrome. It will also throw light on Morgan and Park’s rekindled relationship and why Dr. Glassman was not present when Sean was having his baby.
With epoch-ordering medical dramas such as these, the prospect surrounding impending episodes is impeccably shrouded in better performances, given how medicine is advancing in reality. With the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in surgery, we can expect St. Bonaventure to encapsulate the complexity of medical conditions as much as real-world problems.
