Finding the likes of Marvellous Mrs Maisel for you, Ms. Pat is a modern-day Roseanne who struggles to deal with the changing times and finds her life in her conservative Indiana town difficult after moving there from Atlanta, Georgia. Created by Jordan E. Cooper and Patricia “Pat” Williams, The Ms. Pat Show premiered on the streaming service BET+ on August 12, 2021. The American television sitcom is based on the comedy and life story of comedian Ms. Pat borrowed from her memoir, Rabbit: The Autobiography of Ms. Pat, who turned from a convicted felon on the streets of Atlanta to a reluctant suburban mother.
Pat’s hardheadedness often dovetails into her Black identity and is juxtaposed with the suburban white neighborhood, reminding all the literati of Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. Modeled around the life of Ms. Pat’s fictional family, the Carson, who include her husband, her sister, and Pat’s children, the sitcom is a what-could-have-happened-after to A Raisin in the Sun.
Nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series at the 74th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2022, the third season of the sitcom premiered on February 23, 2023. This made the fans cudgel their brains, thinking about the fate of the show. Here’s what we know so far about the same.
Is The Ms. Pat Show renewed for a season 4?
In May 2023, BET+ renewed its Emmy-nominated series, The Ms. Pat Show for a fourth season. In a conversation with Deadline, Williams said, “It’s going to be another great and funny season and we’re so excited. I don’t want to give anything away but as you know, we’re always challenging ourselves. What I will say is that Season 4 will be better than prior seasons.”
When asked how she manages to bring something new every season and does not repeat any content, she said with a laugh, “There’s something happening in my house every day.”
What is the production status of The Ms. Pat Show season 4?
Williams confirmed that the production on season 4 was scheduled to start on the week the WGA announced the strike, in the wake of AMPTP’s refusal to negotiate the terms. Per Deadline, the comedian is “just waiting” for the WGA to arrive at a fair deal. She said, “We’re ready to get back to work.” On May 10, Jordan Cooper came out in support of the WGA Black writers’ picket line at Paramount Studios.
The news outlet also reported that Williams signed an overall deal with BET in July, which will allow her to produce, write and perform in new series and projects, scripted and unscripted. As a result of this deal, Williams has bagged two new shows which are in development at the moment: an animated series Krack Babies, and a workplace comedy Hud.
