The wildly popular comic book series and now television show, which has kept fans transfixed since the debut of its first season on Netflix, has opened up a whole new world of dark fantasy, complete with breathtaking visuals and exceptional storytelling. In what can only be described as exciting news, Neil Gaiman has confirmed that work has begun on The Sandman Season 2.

The acclaimed author of the original comics also earlier this year tweeted that the writing on the upcoming season had begun, this statement was quick to raise eyebrows and elicit cheers from Sandman fans worldwide. The good news doesn’t stop here! As Gaiman has recently provided an update on Tumblr, it appears that everything is on track for the series to start filming a new chapter.

When one fan inquired about the status of the second chapter, he replied, “Scripts are written. We are casting the first episode we will be shooting. Sets are being designed.” While we know for sure that work has begun on season 2’s scripts and that production will kick off soon, there is still no official confirmation on the release date.

However, it has been speculated that the forthcoming season would most likely have a release window suggested to be sometime around 2024, due to the extensive work needed for the production of the series. On the other hand, this is merely speculation, and the network will reveal all of this information in a few months.

Until then, the fans should be patient and follow all the social media platforms to get all the latest updates!

Earlier this year, we got another update about the second part from actor Mason Alexander Park, who confirmed that cameras will begin rolling in the Summer and shared his excitement saying, “We’re starting shooting in the summer, and we’re gonna tackle the next huge chunk of stories in however long that might take. And I am really excited to share what that might be with everybody, eventually.”

On the other hand, it’s no surprise that the extensive production work that goes into delivering a series marked by such high production values would cause a delay in the release date. Alongside the expectation of an intricate plot, fans know that it takes a significant investment of time and effort to create the awe-inspiring worlds, costumes, and special effects beloved by fans of the series.

There are also hopes that with the upcoming season, fans would gain more insight into the world of The Endless, a family of strange and powerful entities embroiled in politics and power struggles. Neil Gaiman has provided hope that fans will gain a more in-depth understanding of Dream’s siblings, the powerful beings associated with their respective realms.

As the new episodes of the series will dive into that conflict and continue to explore the many challenges facing the universe in the wake of Morpheus’ century-long absence. “There are some astonishing stories waiting for Morpheus and the rest of them (not to mention more members of the Endless Family to meet),” Gaiman continued.

Further adding, “Nobody is going to be happier about this than the Sandman cast and crew: They are the biggest Sandman fans there are. And now it’s time to get back to work. There’s a family meal ahead, after all. And Lucifer is waiting for Morpheus to return to Hell…” Additionally, executive producer David S. Goyer also adds, “And now we get to meet the rest of the Endless!”

The Sandman Season 2 will also pick up after the events of the finale episodes, Adapted from The Sandman #18 “Dream of a Thousand Cats,” and #17 “Calliope,” of the first season in which the viewers got to see that when last we left Dream (Tom Sturridge) and his friends and foes, the forces of hell were on the move, led by Lucifer themself (Gwendoline Christie).

All that said, fans can rest assured that Neil Gaiman is determined to see his beloved comic book series faithfully translated to the small screen. While several elements might be edited for a contemporary audience, it’s highly likely that fans will see the original illustrations of Dave McKean’s masterpiece recreated in the next season, bringing to life the Sandman world in all its dark and fantastical glory.
