Buddy Cop is an evergreen trope on everyone’s watchlist. There’s something about watching two absolutely opposite people working together to sort the mess out. Duos like Riggs & Murtaugh from the Lethal Weapon franchise, Agent J & K from Men In Black, Jackson Healy & Holland March from The Nice Guys, Axel Foley & Billy Rosewood from Beverly Hills Cop, and Nicholas Angel & Danny Butterman from Hot Fuzz have made sure that the buddy cop trope gets an impressive amount of following from viewers.

Another such pairing is Ousmane Diakhité and François Monge, names you might be familiar with if you have watched 2012’s On the Other Side of the Tracks. The pair are reuniting for another cross-country adventure which seems to be involving a huge drug cartel and a trail of dead bodies.

The Takedown is directed by Primetime Emmy-winner Louis Leterrier and written by Stéphane Kazandjian. The film is being produced by Eric Altmayer and Nicolas Altmayer.

Here’s everything we know about the upcoming buddy cop comedy, The Takedown:

The Takedown Release Date

The Takedown is all set to release on Netflix on May 6, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. It’s going to be a late release, so hit the “Remind Me” bell on the movie’s title page on Netflix so you don’t miss it.

The Takedown Trailer

Netflix has released the trailer of The Takedown, and it is going to be one thrill of a ride. It introduces the viewers to Ousmane Diakhité and François Monge, two cops with poles apart personalities whom we have seen working together earlier in 2012’s On the Other Side of the Tracks.

The buddy chemistry between French stars Omar Sy and Laurent Lafitte is very much evident with the perfect comic timing. Though the film is supposed to be a comedy, it didn’t stop it from having every Fast and Furious kind of vibe possible with extreme car chases till one of them falls off the cliff, bombarding, dropping with a parachute, buildings demolishing, cross-firing and what not.

The Takedown Plot

A seemingly routine narcotics transaction when turned out to be a large-scale criminal case laced with danger and unexpected comedy. There came our buddy cops Ousmane Diakhité and François Monge traveling all across France to get to the roots of the case.

Ousmane Diakhité is someone people might call a ‘chaos creating’ personality who would end up in street fighting when he’d have some spare time in his hands. Opposed to him, François Monge is a composed, going-by-the-book kind of character who would do yoga and meditation when free. Somehow this difference in personality is due to the fact that Ousmane grew up in a poor neighborhood where every day would prove to be a struggle and François hails from a wealthy family where things were pretty much served on silver platters.

However, one thing that connects them is their passion for catching the criminals and sweeping them off the streets. But will it be that easy when two men with such opposite approaches to life and choices will come together and work on something of as much gravity as this case?
