In February 2023, the series was renewed for a second season, and now, after months of waiting, the first three episodes are set to premiere next month on Friday, January 12, 2024, along with Season 1 on Peacock. After that, new episodes will drop every Thursday at 6 p.m. PST/9 p.m. EST until the cast reunion is released on Friday, March 8, 2024.
This show is the American version which is closely related to its British counterpart, with both being produced by Studio Lambert for the BBC and Peacock. They share the same location, props, and missions, with the main difference being the hosts. The UK version of the show will also premiere next month on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 on BBC One, and BBC iPlayer.
Additionally, the primary filming took place in Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. The official release date of the second season was also shared by Peacock with a brand new teaser quote: “Hold on to your kilts, dearies. The Traitors Season 2 Plot: What to expect?
The official synopsis of the 11-episode second season reads:
“The Traitors is a nail-biting psychological adventure in which treachery and deceit are the name of the game. Entertainment’s most competitive reality stars and famous faces play the ultimate murder mystery game. Hosted by award-winning actor Alan Cumming at an ancient castle set deep in the Scottish Highlands, contestants work together on a series of exhilarating missions to build a prize fund worth up to $250,000.
Hidden amongst the Faithful are the Traitors, whose goal is to eliminate the Faithful and claim the prize for themselves. Under the cover of darkness, the Traitors murder the Faithful one by one in a treacherous spree, while the Faithful try to uncover the Traitors and banish them from the game. If the Faithful contestants banish all the Traitors, they will share the prize fund, but if a Traitor or Traitors makes it to the end, they will steal all the money.”
Unlike the first season, this season’s cast was composed entirely of 21 new contestants who are noteworthy reality show participants and public figures, which include:
John Bercow (60), Carsten “Bergie” Bergersen (24), Trishelle Cannatella (43), Maksim Chmerkovskiy (43), Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu (29), Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio (41), Sandra Diaz-Twine (49), Dan Gheesling (40), Mercedes “MJ” Javid (51), Marcus Jordan (32), Tamra Judge (53), Kevin Kreider (40), Phaedra Parks (49), Peppermint (43), Janelle Pierzina (43), Larsa Pippen (49), Parvati Shallow (40), Chris “CT” Tamburello (43), Peter Weber (32), Shereé Whitfield (53), and Deontay Wilder (37).
In the United Kingdom, the series was acquired by the BBC as a companion to its British version, with episodes released on BBC iPlayer the day after the American release, Jan. 13, 2023, and linear television airings for BBC Three and BBC One. In Australia, the series was made available to stream on 10 Play in Mar. 2023, as a companion to its Australia version broadcast by Network 10. In Canada, the show is available to stream on Crave.
Sponsored by State Farm, it was announced that during the second season that a new web program named The Traitors Postmortem would be introduced. An after-show program featuring additional footage and interviews with eliminated contestants, that would air Peacock and on Peacock’s YouTube channel. The show became the number one original reality series, with the premiere of the season being BBC Three’s most-watched show since the relaunch of its linear television.
At last, check out the official trailer which highlights that two new areas have been added to the set: the scullery and the folley, a stone-covered area. In addition, rather than the contestants going to the armory, they would have to win shields in challenges.
