The Witcher has been one of the most critically acclaimed fantasy series on Netflix. Created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich for Netflix, The Witcher is based on a book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. For those unversed, The Witcher revolves around the legend of Geralt of Rivia, Yennefer of Vengerberg and, Princess Ciri set in the fictional, medieval-inspired landmass called the Continent.
According to Redanian Intelligence, Netflix is planning for another spin-off that will be based on The Rats. The report says:
“We have learned that the next live-action spinoff of The Witcher will explore the infamous group of young Nilfgaardian misfits called The Rats. In the books, The Rats are featured in Ciri’s storyline as she joins them for a period of time.”
According to What’s on Netflix, a project is already underway the codename titled RATS at Netflix. Not only that, but it is also reportedly filming in South Africa with “numerous members of The Witcher crew attached to the project.”
Be that as it may, Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed this news.
The Rats: Who are they in The Witcher?
The Witcher season 3 will reportedly constitute The Rats. According to The Witcher wiki on Fandom:
“The Rats was a young gang of criminals in Geso that was known for stealing from the rich to satisfy their material wants, which included having the best horses, clothing, and accessories.”
In April 2022, Netflix officially made an announcement regarding The Rats, mentioning its first member, Christelle Elwin, who will reprise the role of Mistle. The official description of her character is as follows:
“Mistle is a member of The Rats, a gang of misfit teenagers who steal from the rich and give to themselves – and sometimes the poor. She is street hard, suspicious of everyone and out for revenge, until a chance meeting that will change everything.”
In addition to Elwin, the subsequent castings include:
- Fabian McCallum as Kayleigh
- Julliette Alexandra as Reef.
- Aggy K. Adams as Iskra (not confirmed)
In addition to these projects, Netflix has also planned The Witcher anime, a kids’ title, The Witcher: Blood Origin (which is releasing on Netflix in December 2022) and The Witcher seasons 3 and 4.
