They couldn’t wait for the third season to drop anymore. However, when The Witcher was renewed for a fourth season, it did not come without a bittersweet crumb of information.

Sadly, Henry Cavill won’t be reprising his role as Geralt of Rivia. His role will now be reprised by Hunger Games star Liam Hemsworth. Consequently, even though The Witcher has been renewed for a fourth season, fans are rooting for the third one to arrive on Netflix so that they can see their favourite actor on screen.

That being said, The Witcher Season 3 is confirmed to release in the summer of 2023. Since the fourth season will no longer feature Henry Cavill in the role of Geralt, the fans of the show, more so of the actor are rooting for the third season. Here are all the release date updates you need to know about the third season of the show.

For those unversed, The Witcher is a Netflix Original fantasy drama created by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich. What is the release date of The Witcher season 3?

Although The Witcher was traditionally released in December, Henry Cavill confirmed at Tudum that the third season of The Witcher is all set to release in the summer of 2023. We speculate the latest season to drop in July 2023. Considering the first two seasons were released during the holidays, along with the release of Blood Origin around Christmas in 2022. If we go by our presumption, we can expect The Witcher season 3 to release sometime around July 4.

According to Redanian Intelligence, the third season houses a new home base at Longcross Studios in England.

The production of The Witcher season 3 is confirmed to be wrapped in September 2022, which means that the latest season is in the post-production process.

=”true”>Adding more to your casting knowledge pool (if you don’t know already), Henry Cavill who played Geralt in the first two seasons and will be back for the third season as well, won’t be reprising his role in the fourth season. The reasons are unknown as of now, so we would request you to take all rumors circulated on the internet with a pinch of salt. Replacing Cavill, Liam Hemsworth is now officially confirmed to be the new Geralt.

What can we expect to happen in The Witcher Season 3?

The third season will certainly attempt to tie all the loose ends of its forebearer. We presume that it will underscore the capture of Ciri. Towards the conclusion of The Witcher season 2, Ciri, Geralt and Yennefer had started to come closer and share a more familial bond. Considering that multiple warring factions are after Ciri, including Nilfgaard and Redania, the bond shared by the triumvirate is commendable.

In an interview with TechRadar, Hissrich disclosed that the third season of The Witcher will be based on the book, The Time of Contempt, which is her “favorite book in the saga.” Here’s the official synopsis of the third season:

“As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri of Cintra into hiding, determined to protect his newly-reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.

“Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery. They must fight back, put everything on the line — or risk losing each other forever.”

The Witcher Season 3 not coming in February

Speaking to Screen Rant, producer Graeme Marshall created a wave of disturbance among the fans, as he spoke about Blood Origin and the third season. He said, “As far as season 4 is concerned, we haven’t really gotten too heavily involved just yet. But with season 3, we’re in the throes of delivering a final couple of episodes on that, and it’s super cool. I don’t think it’s anything that anyone’s read or seen before in Witcher lore, so I think it’s gonna be exciting.”

The fans are reportedly disturbed by the tangent the series is taking owing to its lack of adherence to the source material. However, Hissrich’s comments about the third season being the truest to the books may seem like a balm to the wound. In a conversation with EW, Hissrich said, “What is so interesting is that season 3, to me, is the closest thing that we’ve done as a one-to-one adaptation of the books,” she says. “Obviously, we can’t do every page, but Time of Contempt gave us so many big action events, plot points, defining character moments, and huge reveals of a big bad. There’s so much to do that we were able to stick really, really closely with the books.”

Will there be The Witcher season 4?

The Witcher Season 3 not coming in February

As previously stated by the series showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich, the show is planned out for seven seasons. Plus, we already know that The Witcher season 4 is happening since Hemsworth will be replacing Cavill. Additionally, it seems like Netflix has invested a lot of faith in The Witcher since it began creating a whole titular universe with signing projects like live-action prequel series, a spin-off animated film and another animated feature along with a family-friendly series. You’d be surprised to know that the director Stephen Surjik confirmed The Witcher season 4 to be already mapped out while speaking to Brigade Radio.

How many episodes will be constituted in The Witcher season 3?

The Witcher 3

As of now, Netflix has not revealed the number of episodes The Witcher season 3 will constitute. Be that as it may, the first and the second season each consist of eight episodes, which brings the total of the show to 16 episodes. We presume the third season to also have eight episodes, which sums up the episode count to be 24.
