The R&B icon slams fake rumors about her private life.
Toni Braxton cleared marriage rumors via an Instagram post on Sunday, once and for all, confirming that she and Rapper Birdman are no longer in a relationship and are both single. This aggressive confirmation follows whispers that surfaced on the internet over the weekend suggesting that the two had tied the knot via a private ceremony.

Over a screenshot of a news story that contained side-by-side pictures of the two with the headline, “Congratulations! Toni Braxton & Birdman Married In A Private Ceremony In Mexico!” the Secrets singer wrote “FAKE NEWS” on top of it. She further captioned the post, “My dear friend @birdman and I are not married…never been married,” adding, “We are both single.”
People reported that the two have been in an on-again-off-again relationship with Braxton not confirming exactly when they had called it quits for good, after breaking off their engagement in 2019. Complex reported that in November 2023, the singer-songwriter shared a now-deleted Instagram post of the estranged pair kissing.
The two started their journey as friends and collaborators back in 2002 when they first worked together on Birdman’s single “Baby Can You Do It.” In 2016, per several reports, the two began dating amidst Braxton’s battle with Lupus disease.
In a conversation with People back in 2018, Braxton said that she never expected her friendship with her “bestie for like 15 or 16 years” would turn into something more. She added, “He has come to my baby showers, my plays, my shows. I never thought we would be dating or getting married.” She further spoke about his support during her illness, stating, “Every night he would ask me, ‘Are you okay? Are you good?’ I said, ‘Oh my God, he’s such a great guy!’ ” She added, “When Birdman finally made his move, he told me he always liked me and I was like, ‘You never told me!’ And he’s like, ‘Well, you were married!’ He said, ‘I was always digging you.’ ”
In the trailer for the new season of her family’s hit WeTV reality show Braxton Family Values back in 2018, Braxton shared that the two were set to be engaged after two years of togetherness. However, a year later the two musicians revealed that Braxton would not be walking down the aisle.
Braxton shares sons Diezel Ky, 20, and Denim Cole, 22, with ex-husband Keri Lewis, who she was married to from 2001 to 2013.
