TWICE’s FANCY becomes its 4th MV to reach 500 million views!

TWICE is seven years into its career and doesn’t seem to be slowing down. The hit girl group just reached another milestone in its career. On March 15, 2022, TWICE’s music video for the 2019 smash hit FANCY surpassed 500 million views on YouTube. It is the group’s 4th and fastest music video to cross this milestone after What is Love?, TT, and Likey. FANCY is also the group’s most viewed music video in the first 24 hours, garnering 42.15 million views on the day it was released.

FANCY produced by the famous duo, Black Eyed Pilseung, is the title track for TWICE’s seventh extended play, Fancy You. The release of FANCY marked a concept change in the group’s career. It was well-received by both fans and critics. The album also performed exceptionally well commercially, holding the record for having the highest first-week sales for a Korean girl group album until TWICE itself broke the record with its follow-up album Feel Special.

What made Fancy You more special was that 4 out of the 6 songs in the mini-album were written by the members themselves. Though this wasn’t the first time for a member to be contributing as a lyricist, to have the members on the majority of the tracks was new. Leader Jihyo had written Girls Like Us – a song that motivates women to live their lives as they want and make the best out of it.

Japanese member Sana along with Earattack wrote the pop-dance track, Turn It Up, which talks about wanting the attention of one’s romantic interest. The main dancer of the group, Momo, participated in writing HOT – a song that says every woman is confident and charismatic in her own way. The closing track of the album, Strawberry, was written by TWICE’s very own Strawberry Princess, Chaeyoung.

TWICE is a 9-membered girl group consisting of Nayeon, Jongyeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, Chaeyoung, and Tzuyu. The group was formed via the Mnet survival show Sixteen and made its debut in 2015 under JYP Entertainment, with the EP The Story Begins. The title track, Like OOH-AHH, is the first-ever K-pop debut music video to cross 100 million views on YouTube.

Fancy wasn’t the only music video of TWICE to have marked a milestone this week. On March 14, 2022, KNOCK KNOCK surpassed 300 million views on Youtube, making it the group’s 13th music video to do so. The MVs to have reached this milestone previously include TT, Likey, Cheer Up, Like OOH-AAH, What is Love?, Heart Shaker, Fancy, Feel Special, YES or YES, I CAN’T STOP ME, Dance The Night Away, and MORE & MORE

TWICE recently finished the US leg of their fourth World Tour ‘III’. It ended up becoming the most attended tour of all time by a Korean girl group in North America selling over 100,000 tickets. TWICE will lastly be stopping in Japan to end the world tour in April.
