Are the rumors true? Has the series been delayed once again? Continue reading to find out more about
Virgin River Season 5.
It seems like the wait for the much-loved series to finally drop its highly anticipated fifth season seems to be going on forever! The curiosity of the fandom is growing every single day, as we have almost reached halfway through this year without any major updates about the new season, which is very unusual for Netflix. If you are wondering the same, then you’ve reached the right place to know all the details about the upcoming season.
Unfortunately, it looks like the schedule for the new season has entirely changed this time around!
This move has very much astonished the fans, who were ready to once again delve into the romantic world of Virgin River more than any other fandom. We don’t blame them after all; how can they not grow impatient as it’s almost going to be a whole year since they last saw their beloved characters Melinda “Mel” Monroe and Jack Sheridan together on the television screens around the world?
For your consideration, if you have been keeping up with the show, then you’ll know that earlier it was speculated that the potential release window had been set to be around July 2023, which actually turned out to be false!
After weeks, new reports suggested that the season is confirmed to be released in the fall streaming season with September 7, 2023, as the premiere date which seemed ideal at first. But if you’ve also been keeping an eagle’s eye on this matter, then you’ll know that recently Alexandra Breckenridge hinted on her Instagram Story that this isn’t the confirmed date either, which has once again left the fandom in a bit of confusion.
Yes! It’s sadly true, as on Friday, May 19, 2023, star Alexandra Breckenridge cleared up all the raging doubts raised by the fans by saying, “Okay guys, I found out the real information—there was a post about September 7th, but that’s not their date, okay?” Breckenridge said in the short video message.
Later, the Netflix Tudum website was also quick to draw attention to the matter and put an end to debates surrounding the release date by merely stating that the fifth season will debut sometime in the fall of 2023 without specifying the precise release date, which we presume will take some more time to be formally acknowledged by the cast and crew.
Hence, we ask the fans to be patient with the network to confirm such details and be happy about the fact that the series will not be taking a break and will be making its return soon! After clarifying the rumors, let’s still be aware of the fact that despite it not being a part of the summer lineup, that doesn’t mean that the beloved show won’t be returning later this year.
As you know by now, the release window for the fifth season is still secure, and it will be part of the fall 2023 streaming season on Netflix. Moreover, this will be the first time since the third and fourth seasons that the show has set a premiere date for the fall season, which is exciting in itself and a bit of a relief that the show won’t be taking a long hiatus.
Our prediction: Our best estimate is that Virgin River Season 5 will most likely be released between September 2023 and November 2023, which is ideal for the fall season, and it would allow fans to binge-watch all the new episodes as soon as they are released before they begin to wishlist new series that will be lined up for the 2023 winter streaming season on Netflix.

Virgin River Season 5: What to expect in the new season?
“What you can expect from Season 5 is a lot of answers to the questions you have been waiting for,” executive producer and writer Erin Cardillo told Tudum at a set visit last year. Hope’s recovery, Doc’s diagnosis, the Paige situation, Brie and Brady’s relationship — they’re all going to be addressed. Plus, executive producer and writer Richard Keith promised Netflix Tudum on the same set visit, “There are some new characters coming to Virgin River this season that will mix things up a bit.”
Further hinting: “Season 5 is going to continue to stay true to what fans have loved about the show from the beginning; it feels like a community that we all belong to and that we’re all a part of, it’s very comforting, it gives you hope, and I think all of that is stuff that people can’t get enough of these days,” Netflix’s Head Of Drama, Development Jinny Howe told Deadline last August.
“I think what’s going to be interesting is to see this universe continue to grow and expand and to see new characters, other characters return. A lot of that was set up in the Season 4 finale but it’s going to be really exciting to see all of that come to a head in Season 5.”
The main cast members from the fourth season who are expected to reprise their roles are as follows Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe, Martin Henderson as Jack Sheridan, Tim Matheson as Vernon Mullins, Annette O’Toole as Hope McCrea, Lauren Hammersley as Charmaine Roberts, Colin Lawrence as John “Preacher” Middleton, Grayson Gurnsey as Ricky, and Sarah Dugdale as Lizzie, among some other recurring cast members.
There are some new additions to the show, which were announced back in October 2022.
Kandyse McClure has joined the cast for season 5 in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Also joining the cast are three new faces who were confirmed back in November 2022, including Susan Hogan, Elise Gatien, and Paolo Maiolo. The characters’ details have been kept under wraps, which will be a pleasure to watch in the next season. Moreover, Patrick Sean Smith will take over the helm from original showrunner Sue Tenney.
Virgin River: Is the series renewed for Season 6?
In May 2023, ahead of the fifth season premiere, the network confirmed that the series was renewed for a sixth season which was previously hinted to happen by many cast and crew members. JinnyHowe, Netflix’s Head Of Drama, also addressed the prospects for Virgin River’s future plans, quoting:
“I think we definitely see more longevity and growth with the show,” she said. “As long as the audience asks for it and shows up — and I think we see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well — it feels like based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5 that there is a lot more storytelling to offer us.”
