With the summer streaming season approaching fast on Netflix, the anticipation among various fandoms has reached new heights as they have been wondering if their favorite shows will be a part of it or not. One of the most talked-about shows coming back on the streaming platform for the romance drama genre is Virgin River, which is reported to premiere its fifth season this year. So, it was evident why the fandom has been showing forward toward its premiere status.
They have been questioning if it is a part of the summer lineup or not because the show specifically encapsulated the essence of being a summer binge series.
If you are wondering the same about the potential release date for the show, then we can assure you that you have reached the right place to get all the details about when these cherished characters, which are based on Robyn Carr’s novels, will be returning on Netflix. In order to help you get ready for the upcoming episodes of this drama television series, we have listed some of the most recent series updates. Here is everything we currently know about Netflix’s Virgin River Season 5.
Virgin River Season 5: Is it premiering in May 2023?
We are aware of how much the fans have been awaiting its premiere, but we have some unfortunate news to share with you! We hate to break this to our readers, but the new episodes will not return in May 2023, as Netflix recently released their summer lineup in which Virgin River Season 5 was not mentioned, which is a bit disappointing for the die-hard fans who have been anticipating its return for more than a year!
Even though this is a bit of a heartbreaking update, we can do some other updates that will lighten up your mood. There is no doubt that the show won’t be making its comeback until May 2023. But it doesn’t mean that the romantic drama series won’t premiere later this year. We can tell that you’re on high alert right now since Netflix has confirmed that, despite not being on the summer lineup, the beloved show will return later this year.
Yes, you heard it right! The new season will be part of the fall line-up of the 2023 season on Netflix. This will be the first time since the third and fourth seasons that the show has set a premiere date for the fall season, which is exciting in itself and a bit of relief that the show won’t be taking a long hiatus. For your consideration, if we speculate the potential release window, we speculate that the new season might premiere sometime between September 2023 to November 2023.

Virgin River Season 5: What to expect in the new season?
“What you can expect from Season 5 is a lot of answers to the questions you have been waiting for,” executive producer and writer Erin Cardillo told Tudum at a set visit last year. Hope’s recovery, Doc’s diagnosis, the Paige situation, Brie and Brady’s relationship — they’re all going to be addressed.
Executive producer and writer Richard Keith promised Tudum on the same set visit, “There are some new characters coming to Virgin River this season that will mix things up a bit.”
“Season 5 is going to continue to stay true to what fans have loved about the show from the beginning; it feels like a community that we all belong to and that we’re all a part of, it’s very comforting, it gives you hope, and I think all of that is stuff that people can’t get enough of these days,” Netflix’s Head Of Drama, Development Jinny Howe told Deadline last August.
Further adding, “I think what’s going to be interesting is to see this universe continue to grow and expand and to see new characters, other characters return. A lot of that was set up in the Season 4 finale but it’s going to be really exciting to see all of that come to a head in Season 5.”
Without spoiling much, Martin Henderson, who plays Jack Sheridan, said that Season 5 is the best one yet, quote, “From what I understand this season, you’re going to also see Mel and Jack get really close,” he told Glamour. Further adding, “Some of the stuff they’re going to go through is really going to cement their bond. A lot of season 4 was stuff pushing them away, like Jack’s drinking.”
Martin concluded by stating, “I don’t think there was true doubt about the relationship, but there were definitely some questions and bumps that were making their union kind of rocky. Hopefully, that big proposal puts an end to that … but seeing them mature and deepen their love is going to be nice.”

There are some new additions to the show, which were announced back in October 2022.
Kandyse McClure has joined the cast for season 5 in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Also joining the cast are three new faces who were confirmed back in November 2022, including Susan Hogan, Elise Gatien, and Paolo Maiolo. The characters’ details have been kept under wraps, which will be a treat to watch in the next season. Patrick Sean Smith will take over the helm from original showrunner Sue Tenney.
Virgin River Season 5 Episodes and Streaming Options

So, we would advise fans to be patient while waiting for these updates, which will be issued in the coming weeks. On the bright side, IMDb has released the titles of the three episodes, which are as follows:

Virgin River: Frequently Asked Questions
What is Virgin River based on?
Virgin River is based on the popular novels by Robyn Carr, which follows the story of Mel Monroe, a nurse practitioner who moves to a small town in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River. She starts a new life in the scenic, quiet town of Virgin River and becomes involved with the local bar owner and ex-marine, Jack Sheridan. The series explores the intricacies of small-town life, relationships, and family dynamics. But she soon discovers that small-town living isn’t quite as simple as she expected.
Is Virgin River renewed for Season 6?
Yes! In May 2023, ahead of the fifth season premiere, the series was renewed for a sixth season which was previously hinted to happen. “I think we definitely see more longevity and growth with the show,” she said. “As long as the audience asks for it and shows up — and I think we see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well — it feels like based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5 that there is a lot more storytelling to offer us.”
Virgin River: Is there any new teaser or trailer?
Netflix hasn’t released any new promotional stuff for the fifth season as the release date has been moved further, leaving a lot of time for marketing to begin. We’ll have to wait for it for some time. Until then, fans can check out the fourth season trailer to recap all the events that transpired. As, the fifth season is going to pick up the plot from this season’s ending, which has left many unanswered questions like: Who’s the father of Mel’s baby? What’s the deal with Doc’s supposed grandson, Denny? And who actually shot Jack? Is Jack actually the father of her twins?
