Virgin River Season 5 Plot Updates
With a new showrunner and some new characters at play, there will be major shakeups on Virgin River Season 5. Diversity and inclusion will be major focal points this season. “I’m hoping that in the future, we can bring more conversations to the table,” Breckenridge told Glamour. “In season five, we’re bringing some more LGBTQ+ stories into the show, which I think is absolutely wonderful. I’ve been fighting for diversity on the show since we started, and I think we’ve been slowly moving toward a lot of that. Certainly with our new showrunner and directors. Netflix is really trying to bring more inclusivity into programming.”
Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith shared with TV Line about Ricky’s absence in Virgin River season 5, stating, “The timeline was set that he would be in basic training until December. I won’t say [you’ll have to wait until] Season 10, but he’s a fan favorite. Everybody loves him. We’ll probably see Ricky at some point down the road.” In addition to this, Smith also hinted that Mel and Jack would be taking things slow and reveling in their engagement.
Smith told TV Line about the couple’s impending nuptials, “Mel and Jack are such an epic couple that you really want to savor things as much as you can. We don’t want things to ever feel like they’re stalled, but we also want to enjoy [their engagement] while we can. So we’re moving at that pace with all of the things they have ahead of them, anticipating [a wedding] down the road.”
On Melissa and Nick’s involvement in Jack’s business, Breckenridge informed TV Guide, “It’s an interesting twist. Jack and Mel are such honest people that I’m surprised.” Further adding, “I’m really curious to know if Nick knows that Melissa is a fentanyl kingpin. I don’t actually know that. Obviously, Nick has invested in this airstream glamping business that Jack is starting, so I think Melissa may become a part of that. How that ties into any danger for Jack and Mel, I don’t know!”
