Weakest Link Season 3 Release Date
Yes, it is official! Weakest Link Season 3 is returning for a third season at NBC, which is set to return with the host Jane Lynch, based on the British game show. As of August 2, 2022, we speculate that Weakest Link Season 3 won’t be available to stream this year. The series is expected to premiere sometime around early to mid-2023. But if we may guess, the third season could debut in January-June 202. We’d like to emphasize that the month is only a prediction at this moment; the actual release date will be announced by NBC as the month draws to a close to an official release.
On the other hand, the official social media handles of the network have not officially announced the series’ debut date, leading to much speculation among fans as the viewers know that the production and post-production stage will also take some time to perfect the episodes in order to make the next season much more compelling for the viewers. Hence, we suggest fans to be patient for some time as these announcements take their time to be published and are made in a scheduled manner by the streaming platforms.
Why was Weakest Link renewed for a third season?
According to NBC, the series has reached more than 17M viewers this season across linear and digital platforms, and its current summer run has improved NBC’s Monday 10 pm timeslot by double-digit percentages across the board, including an increase of 30% in the 18-49 demo and up 26% in total viewers.
Jane Lynch said, “I’m very much looking forward to the third season of mocking contestants and encouraging discord.” Moreover, Lynch also shared the news on her official Instagram handle by simply posting the Deadline article, quoting, “We’re renewed for a supersized season three! @nbcweakestlink” Take a look at the official post below:

In addition to this, Valerie Bruce, General Manager, BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions, stated, “This represents an exciting new chapter for us and for the millions of fans around the world who have rallied behind Weakest Link over the years: a fresh opportunity to take the series to new heights this season by collaborating with the one and only Jane Lynch whose razor-sharp wit is the perfect match for the fastest and fiercest game show on TV. We’re thrilled to continue our partnership with NBC on the hit series that puts your smarts and your speed to the ultimate test.”
Weakest Link Season 3 Plot and Episodes
Weakest Link Season 3 is co-produced by BBC Studios Los Angeles Productions and Universal Television Alternative Studio. Production will start in the fall. Stuart Krasnow, who executive produced the original NBC run, serves as showrunner and exec produce alongside Ryan O’Dowd for BBC Studios, Lynch, and Aaron Solomon.
The next season is expected to follow the basic premise like the two seasons. According to NBC, the series follows each episode with eight contestants entering the studio as total strangers but must work together to bank the maximum amount of prize money available in each round. The contestants take turns answering general knowledge questions to build chains of correct answers.
Consecutive correct answers greatly increase the value of the chain, while incorrect answers break the chain and force the contestants to start over on the lowest rung with the smallest amount of money. At the end of each round, contestants vote to eliminate the fellow contestant they consider to be the “Weakest Link” in the chain. The contestant who receives the highest number of votes leaves the game as Jane declares the iconic phrase, “You are the Weakest Link. Goodbye.”
The upcoming season is expected to have at least 20 episodes with an average runtime of approx 60 minutes (primetime) and 30 minutes (syndication) each. We’d also like to point out that, as of August 2, 2022, the exact episode titles and synopsis for the upcoming season cannot be confirmed and are yet to be revealed by the network, which may take some time. For the time being, we recommend that fans wait patiently and binge-watch the newly released Season 2 to get right back into this world before streaming the third season.
