Are the final goodbyes to the three traditional vampires nearing close? Here is everything we know so far about
What We Do in the Shadow’s potential future.

There are few fan-favorite mockumentary series left on networks for viewers to enjoy this genre in recent times, as it has created a special place in the hearts of television lovers who love to spend their time binge-watching something unique and fresh, which makes What We Do in the Shadows an exception in this category that has developed a fandom of its own over the years, which is quite commendable considering there are only a few seasons left of this series!

The show has been massively successful since its inception back in 2010, which isn’t a long time, but it still manages to gather amazing reception around the world, making it a special addition to the FX catalog that everyone can enjoy watching with an element of comedy horror on a cozy night with family and friends!

The die-hard fans who have invested their time into streaming the show are now starting to wonder if the story is coming to an end, especially when many series tend to conclude before they hit the 6-season mark! So, if you are curious to know the same, then you have reached the right place to get all the answers! In this article, we’ll explore some of these factors and try to determine whether or not What We Do in the Shadows will return for another season.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: Is it the final season?

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: Is it the final season or not?

We know that the fans have been curious to know if the road to another season for the beloved mockumentary comedy horror series has ended or if it will continue for another chapter or not.

If you are wondering the same, then we can assure you that this popular series isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. Yes, you read it right! Back when the fourth season aired, the network was quick to renew the show for a fifth and sixth season ahead of the season premiere, which is quite exciting to know that there is another season on the way after the much-awaited fifth season is all set to premiere this month in a few days on Thursday, July 13, 2023, on FX and later available on Hulu.

So, to answer your question: No, the fifth season isn’t the final chapter of this series, and more fun is on the way with the sixth season, for which the fans will have to wait for some time as we expect it to begin filming later this year and will set a release window sometime around mid-2024, with July being the ideal time for a premiere, just like the prior seasons. Additionally, the official renewal announcement was shared on the official Twitter handle of FX Networks last year, quoting, “Undead and ready to keep this party going. What We Do in the Shadows has been renewed for two more seasons.”

Take a look at the official renewal announcement post below:

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: Why was it renewed?

The early renewal of this series isn’t surprising, as the overall reception from critics and audiences around the world has been amazing for the network, and the reception speaks for itself!

The fourth season received universal acclaim from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has an approval rating of 100%, based on 29 reviews, with an average rating of 8.6/10. The website’s critical consensus reads, “Aside from turning this demonic household into Three Vampires and a Baby, What We Do in the Shadows doubles down on what it does best without drastically changing the formula – and remains fang-tastic all the same.” On Metacritic, the fourth season has an average score of 84 out of 100, based on 8 critics, indicating “universal acclaim.”

So, it is understandable why the FX network renewed the series for more seasons, as these factors ensure that many major networks will not lose any potential success from a long-running franchise any time soon. According to Deadline, What We Do in the Shadows has received 10 Emmy Award nominations in its first two seasons, including one for Outstanding Comedy Series. Season 3 has received three Critics’ Choice Award nominations, including one for Best Comedy Series, and is presently eligible for Emmy consideration.

Moreover, it has been critically acclaimed (particularly for its cast and writing) and nominated for 17 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2020 and 2022.

Moreover, Nick Grad, President of Original Programming at FX Entertainment, states, “There’s a lot of life left in our favorite vampires from Staten Island, and FX couldn’t be more thrilled to commit to two additional seasons of this phenomenal series,” He further added, “What We Do in the Shadows excels on every level, from the brilliant cast and surprising guest stars to the producers, writers, directors, and crew. We can’t wait for everyone to enjoy Season 4, knowing that the next two are on the way.”

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: What to expect?

Not much has been revealed about the exact plotlines of the season, but we are certain that it will continue from the fourth season’s final episode, “Sunrise, Sunset,” in which we get to see baby Colin reach an awkward age. Moreover, the early reviews of the show are incredible, as the fifth season has already received universal acclaim from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the fifth season has an approval rating of 100%, based on 7 reviews, with an average rating of 8.8/10. On Metacritic, the fifth season has an average score of 84 out of 100, based on 8 critics, indicating “universal acclaim.” This makes one thing clear the season has a lot of surprises in store for the fans!

As the series is based on the feature film of the same name from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi, “What We Do in the Shadows” is a documentary-style look into the daily (or rather, nightly) lives of four vampires who’ve “lived” together for hundreds of years in Staten Island.

The self-appointed leader of the group is Nandor the Relentless, a great warrior and conqueror from the Ottoman Empire. Then there’s the British vampire Laszlo – a bit of a rogue and a dandy and a fop, he might say. He’s a lover of mischief and a great soirée, but not as much as he loves seeing Nandor fail miserably in every attempt. And then there’s Nadja: the seductress, the temptress, the vampiric Bonnie to Laszlo’s Clyde. Also cohabiting in the vampire household is Guillermo, Nandor’s familiar; and Colin Robinson, an energy vampire and day-walker of sorts – he feasts on humans, but not on their blood.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: Who will reprise their roles?

All the favorite vampires from Staten Island, New York City, New York are coming back in Season 5 as the series revolves around these vampires interacting with the modern world and other supernatural beings, which are as follows: Kayvan Novak as Nandor the Relentless, Matt Berry as Leslie “Laszlo” Cravensworth, Natasia Demetriou as Nadja of Antipaxos, Harvey Guillén as Guillermo de la Cruz, and Mark Proksch as Colin Robinson.

There can be some special cameo appearances and recurring cast members returning to the show, as the show is widely known to have included some popular actors in the past season as well, and we are certain they won’t hold back in including them this season as well. The series is produced by FX Productions, with Paul Simms, Clement, Waititi, Stefani Robinson, Sam Johnson, Garrett Basch, and Eli Bush serving as executive producers.

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5: How many episodes and where to stream?

The season has a total of 10 episodes with an average runtime of 22 to 30 minutes, and it will drop a new episode on a weekly basis.
