The Umbrella Academy Season 3 arrived on Netflix on June 22, 2022, and ended on a massive cliffhanger. The finale has left the viewers with more questions than answers and we can’t wait to see if there will be a new apocalypse for the team to deal with and how will they deal with it, considering none of them have their powers now.
For the unversed, The Umbrella Academy is a time travel superhero series that is based on the comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. The series follows a set of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father’s death and deal with the threat of an apocalypse.
The series was premiered on Netflix on February 15, 2019, and it became one of the most-streamed series of the year. It was renewed for a second season, which was released on July 31, 2020, followed by a third season on June 22, 2022. The finale of season 3 ended on a nail-biting cliffhanger and we’ll talk about the characters that died at the end of it.
Here’s a list of characters who died at the end of The Umbrella Academy Season 3.
1. Marcus Hargreeves
He was The Sparrow’s Number One but the Kugelblitz pulled him in. Throughout Season 3, the Sparrow Academy begins to lose its members and Marcus is the first one taken by the Kugelblitz. Kugelblitz is a swirling vortex of doom that destroys everything in its path. He tries to stroke and vortex and is sucked inside it and as a result, The Kugelblitz reduces him to a skeleton and then, vaporizes its first victim.
2. Jayme and Alphonso
Sparrows Number Four and Six were killed by Harlan’s dangerous blast. The shockwaves hit Jayme and Alphonso the hardest and kill them instantly. Harlan manages to disfigure their faces while they’re dying. It was a horrific visual but a quick death for the two sparrows.
3. Klaus Hargreeves
Klaus actually dies multiple times in horrific ways in The Umbrella Academy Season 3. When he was babysitting Stanley in a hotel, Stanley found a harpoon and accidentally fired the weapon, which ended up killing Klaus. However, he comes back and realizes that he is immortal. Reginald starts experimenting on him, killing him over and over again. At the end of the season, the survivors jump into a tunnel that leads to Hotel Oblivion. Reginald tries to stop Klaus from entering the tunnel but suddenly, the Kugelblitz destroys the entirety of the universe and during those fleeting seconds, Klaus leaps into the air and is impaled on a buffalo taxidermy’s horn.
4. Harlan Cooper
Harlan’s powers were catastrophic and in Season 3, he ended up killing two Sparrows and all the Umbrella siblings’ mothers. Alison killed him at the end when he revealed that he had killed her mother in this timeline. Alison got her revenge and later, handed over his corpse to the Sparrows. While the weapon of Harlan’s death is unknown, it’s most probably her persuasive powers.
5. Stanley
In Episode 6 of The Umbrella Academy Season 3, Stanley goes missing. Diego and Lila went to search for him in the portal world of Hotel Oblivion. But when they return, they found Stanley vaporized by another shockwave from the Kugelblitz. He appears in Lila’s flashbacks in the next episode but other than that, he’s dead in the Sparrow timeline.
6. Grace Hargreeves
Since she is a robot, she cannot be killed and instead, terminated. She believed that Kugelblitz is some godlike deity and worships the black hole. When the superhumans try to defeat it, she tries to fight back with a flamethrower. Then, Five manages to send her away and snaps her neck.
7. Fei Hargreeves and Christopher Hargreeves
Fei, who accidentally takes herself out, clinks her glass against Christopher, who contains the Kugelblitz within himself and because he cannot contain the Kugelblitz, he explodes and sucks her in during the process. Another set of Sparrow died in this season and when the universe is reset, it seems as though Sloane, and the rest of the Sparrow Academy, don’t exist anymore.
8. Luther Hargreeves
Reginald uses an alien sword at Luther and when Luther is dead, he sets up a fake crime scene, so that it would appear that The Guardian has killed him, by leaving the tunnel door leading to Hotel Oblivion left ajar. However, Luther returns from the dead in a new timeline and if you’re a fan of the character, don’t worry, it looks like he is very much still alive.
9. Sir Reginald Hargreeves
Alison kills Reginald to stop the assault on her family. Reginald gets his head sliced in season 3 by his own daughter. This move makes sense as he nearly killed everyone for his own experiments and benefits. However, his death doesn’t mean much as he is still alive in another timeline.
