Warrior Nun is an American fantasy drama series created by Simon Barry and released on July 2020, on Netflix. The series received positive reviews and after a run of two seasons, in December 2022, Netflix announced the cancellation of Warrior Nun season 3. If you had been a fan of the series, we understand that you must have been devastated by the news, like a million others. Post which fans even had campaigned #SaveWarriorNun demanding a return of the series but unfortunately that is not something to happen. Despite Simon Barry, the showrunner of the series himself being at the head of that campaign.

Moreover, since Warrior Nun is a Netflix original series, it seems unlikely that the show will find a new home with another streaming service or network.
Well, now we look into the probable reasons why Warrior Nun season 3 might have been canceled by Netflix.
Why did Netflix cancel Warrior Nun Season 3?
According to Deadline, the reason behind the cancellation of the third season of Warrior Nun caters to the low viewership of the series. The outlet noted that Warrior Nun’s second season ratings have been quite similar to that of Netflix’s other original series which have previously been canceled by the platform. We learned that this is also because the streamer evaluates viewing versus cost for their renewal decisions.
Post the release of its second season in 2022, the show had initially debuted at the 6th rank in the first week with 26.22 million global hours of viewership. Though in week 2, the number of hours that the series was viewed grew 6% to 27.74 million, still this wasn’t the big hype that the show likely needed.
In week 3, the series viewership dropped by a major 57%. In fact, dropping of more than 50% of viewing hours is usually a sign that a show has dwindling viewership which will not be enough to justify another season.
Though upon its release, season 2 of Warrior Nun featured in the Weekly Top 10 for English-language series and had peaked at the 5th position, the feat was only for 3 weeks. While that was an achievement, unfortunately, that’s not enough in comparison to the other hit series on the streaming platform that is bringing in lots of money as it’s all a business after all.
Therefore, it could be said that though Warrior Nun could build a small yet passionate fan base, which had helped it to secure a renewal for the second season from Netflix it was not enough to sustain the series in the long run.
What was the plot of Warrior Nun?
Inspired by the manga novels, the storyline traced the journey of a 19-year-old woman (Alba Baptista) who wakes up in a morgue with a new lease on life and a divine artifact embedded in her back. Over the course, she discovers that she is now a part of an ancient order that has been tasked with fighting demons on Earth, and powerful forces representing both heaven and hell want to find and control her.
