2023 has been a year full of surprises. But what really took us back was the complete cessation of production schedules of all the shows and movies. How could this be possible? But it is. Included in this coterie of postponed release date schedule, is Blue Bloods season 14. Renewed for the 14th season on March 29th, 2023, Blue Bloods has helped CBS earn the title of the most-watched US TV network.

Tantamount to NCIS and FBI franchises in terms of popularity, Blue Bloods was created by the veterans of The Sopranos, Mitchell Burgess and Robin Green. Premiered in 2010, the cop drama stars the TV legend Tom Selleck and is modelled around the fictional Reagan family, which is a Catholic, Irish-American family residing in New York.

Owing to the deteriorating financial conditions, the renewal for the 14th season did not come without a 25% pay cut. Thanks to the stars and the production who agreed to the pay repletion and give yet another year to the fans to (perhaps) bid adieu to the characters.

Be that as it may, there is already some rumour circulating in the streets of the internet, suggesting that Tom Selleck’s Frank Reagan, the man in charge, the head of the Reagan dynasty and the NYC Police Commissioner, is already looking forward to quitting the force in season 14. How true is that?

Here’s what we know so far about the same.

In conversation with a TV insider, Selleck and the executive producer of the show Kevin Wade made some comments regarding the responsibilities that the role of a commissioner heralds. Selleck said:

“I didn’t choose this job. He (his character) did it out of a sense of duty because the cops needed a leader they could trust. So we don’t like the job and he’s not really a good boss. He often takes everything out on his staff. They understand, and they love their boss.”

Talking about Reagan’s retirement, Wade did not completely dissuade the idea and confirmed that it would happen at some point. As has been quoted by One Chicago Center, Wade revealed that the retirement would follow, but fortunately, it won’t be until the show has gone off the air.

He said:

“I suppose when the show ends, he will step down. There would be no advantage in having Frank run for mayor or retire and move out to Montauk and start fishing.”
