A Dyslexic Special Agent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations with an eidetic memory?
Talk about a pioneering twist on the classic mystery-investigation genre!
Karin Slaughter, the revered crime drama writer, knew that her novel series would hit the bestselling mark when she created an eccentric character like Will Trent, summoning the forces to bounce off a web series based on it. Sure enough, post the grand inception of Will Trent Season 1, more and more viewers got hooked on the unconventional storyline mixed with classic Sherlock Homes rendevous. In fact, the lasting impact of the Season 1 finale, which was by far the most enticing cliffhanger for an investigation series, catapulted it into the throes of a renewal within a single month.
The innumerable accolades and viewership ratings the freshman series has gardened over only a few weeks since its inception is proof enough for ABC to renew it for a new season as soon as possible. The anticipation radar for the ever-growing fan base of Will Trent escalated when reports stated that production for Will Trent Season 2 was officially on the run in April 2023. Thereafter in May, the inauguration of a simmer of protest took place in the form of WGA strikes, and ever since then, voices from the other side of production have remained mute leaving us shrouded in mystery and suspense over the eager anticipation of the arrival of Season 2 of Will Trent.
If you share the same trail of thought, you have come surfing to the right page. We are here to quench your thirst for any update on where things are for Season 2, and whether it will be reaching us anytime in September 2023. Keep reading to find out!

Is Will Trent Season 2 Coming in September 2023?
We dislike to be the bearer of grim news, but a brand new season of Will Trent will not be reaching us in September 2023. In fact, while we are on this subject, Will Trent Season 2 will not be returning to us anytime this year. There are a few solid contributing factors to this unfortunate news.
As mentioned earlier, all engines were fired, and Season 2 of Will Trent was already in production around April 2023. However, the happy news fell splat on its face when May 2023 saw the start of a strike, which is still going on. So, until the strike situation is under control and negotiations are underway, we cannot expect any miracle to inform us of an official date of release for Season 2.
Will Trent Season 2 Update: Is There Any Update On The Strike Situation?
With its renewal announcement initiation in April, fans were eagerly anticipating the arrival of Will Trent Season 2 by the end of 2023. However, seems like fate had other plans for the series.
May 2023 witnessed the onslaught of the gravest writer’s protest in the form of the WGA union. Amidst the protest, several competing networks updated their fall broadcast schedules in anticipation of the dissipation of the strikes within the next month.
However, in July, the actors union SAG-AFTRA also joined in the protest for their wage rights and better protection against the hindsight of Artificial Intelligence. The last time such a large-scale strike sent Hollywood productions into an indefinite hiatus was 63 whole years ago! We are currently in the third month of this double-strike situation, and there are no hopes for any reconciliation through negotiations.
In a recent meeting held for the first time in more than three months, the Writers Guild and the AMPTP on Friday failed to reach an agreement to resume contract negotiations. Their inability to agree on terms for returning to the bargaining table comes after their much-anticipated meeting to discuss a possible resumption of talks.“As of now, there is no agreement on these items because the AMPTP said they needed to consult with their member studios before moving forward,” the union said in a statement recently.
This caused massive confusion and buzz amidst the fandom. We are currently nearing the end of three months of the strike, and no bouts of development or simmering down have been reported. However, we have come across a recent announcement sharing a possible retreat from the indefinite hiatus situation caused by the strike.
Hollywood’s striking writers and major studios have agreed to hold talks on Friday for the first time since their strike began over higher pay demands in May 2023. “We’ll be back in communication with you sometime after the meeting with further information,” the committee told its members in its note. Though it seems like good news, that doesn’t mean that the chance of the series being delayed further is still on the table if the strikes gain more momentum and don’t reach a resolution within the next few weeks, especially after the meeting. The current strikes and their widespread implications are no stranger to Hollywood as it has severely affected the fate of scripted shows.

So if not 2023, when can we expect the new season of Will Trent to arrive?
Will Trent Season 2 Release Update: When Will It Reach Us?
Amidst the strike situation in May and then in July, competitor websites such as CBS, CW, and NBC, all updated and then re-updated their fall lineup schedules to meet with the consequences of the ongoing double strike situation with the WGA and the SAG AFTRA. However, it seems like even for big-shot networks such as these. They accidentally miscalculated the repercussions a strike could have over scripted shows. When the new seasons of the series that were scheduled for the fall lineup of 2023 were not going to materialize, they had to answer to the waiting and agitated fandom who were awaiting even a shred of information about their promised upcoming seasons. The best course of action? All the networks decided to push back their fall 2023 shows to a mid-2024 release window that includes the first quarter of the year. This gives the strike enough time to simmer down and for the production houses to catch up to their correspondence.
Looks like ABC donned the hat of Sherlock Holmes and predicted the unprecedented outcome of the strike. They smelled danger from afar and mid-seasoned all the upcoming scripted series without giving the viewers false hope over a fall 2023 release.
Hence, if and only the strike situation diminishes within the next two months, you will have a mid-2024 schedule by November 2023. Will Trent Season 2 will be peaking at you, among other releases for mid-season 2024.
Nevertheless, let us navigate other contours of what we can expect from Will Trent Season 2.
Will Trent Season 2 Plot: What To Expect From The New Season?
*Spoiler Alert*
While we do not have much to go on for Season 2 of the flagship investigative crime-drama, we can take a pretty decent guess and say that Will Trent Season 2 Episode 1 will invariably pick up from where the Season 1 episode finale, “A Bad Temper and a Hard Heart,” of the first season left off. Here, the viewers get to see that when an APD agent goes missing, Will examines the crime scene and locates a secret message, putting him back on the path to justice. With his lineage in question, Will realizes the answers he seeks have been in front of him all along.
The season will be true to Karin Slaughter’s New York Times bestselling “Will Trent,” series, where Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI) was abandoned at birth and endured a harsh coming-of-age in Atlanta’s overwhelmed foster care system. But now, determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was, Will Trent has the highest clearance rate in the GBI.
So for the upcoming Season, we can expect another round of ground-breaking mysterious disappearances, heart-wrenching abandonment stories, earth-shattering discoveries, and Will Trent’s own character development to come to terms with his hoaxed past that led him to take the investigative job in the first place.
Recently, Rodríguez gave a brief insight into the second season’s plot, “We’re so thankful to our ABC and Hulu fans for joining us on this wild ride and watching Will Trent.”
Further adding, “When we set out to bring the series to television screens, we wanted to do justice to the gritty, thrilling world that Karin Slaughter created with her bestselling book series. Liz Heldens, Dan Thomsen, and the creative team have developed complex and nuanced characters that people relate to on a human level — and it hasn’t hurt having our little star, Betty, on the call sheet. We’re so excited for the opportunity to dive deeper into these stories with season two.”
We are as excited as Rodriguez to watch the upcoming season because of the brewing pot of plots. Nevertheless, since there is not much to go on for what Season 2 might entail, it will be a better course of action for you to go through the official episode-rundown of Will Trent Season 1, to gather intel and establish a few grounds on which the Season 2 plot will carry forward from.

Will Trent Season 2 View: Episode Count And Where To Watch
The next season is expected to consist of at least 13 episodes with an average runtime of 43–44 minutes, following suit of the last Season. The only reason for which we can expect an alteration in the episode count is due to the longevity of the strike situation and the closing window frame on the production and post-production process. The shorter the time to complete production, the shorter the number of episodes. As a means of ABC tradition, the network is obliged to curtail its episode count for a Season from 13 to say 8 episodes. Don’t be glum. The network does compensate for the following Season with more episodes than the ordinary number. When Season 2 of Will Trent arrives sometime in 2024, it will arrive on the ABC network, preferably in its regular time slot of 10 p.m. However, that is still open to speculation, given the delay with other series that needs to be squeezed in as well.
So we urge readers to revisit the first season, which has an 89% approval rating with an average rating of 7/10 based on 9 critic reviews, as the official trailer for the first season also reflects on Special Agent Will Trent of the Georgia Bureau of Investigations (GBI), who is determined to use his unique point of view to make sure no one is abandoned like he was. Season 1 is available right now on the following platforms:
- Hulu
- Disney Plus, Hotstar (for Indian audiences)
- FuboTV
- Amazon Instant Video
- Google Play
- Vudu
