A sheriff’s deputy from Maryland charged a North Carolina mother with first-degree murder after finding her holding her son’s lifeless body in her arms. The woman was identified as Gloria Elena Hughes, 37, as alleged by Police in Bel Air, Md. Upon coming across this incident, the sheriff immediately called for assistance, after which the boy, identified as Jason Garcia, 3, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
According to documents obtained by WUSA, WBALTV, and WLBT, per People, surveillance footage showed Hughes banging her son to the ground over and over again. Per the reports, Garcia was at the hospital the night before his death, having ingested acid.
Per reports, the deceased boy’s father had alerted the authorities in North Carolina Saturday morning to a custody dispute. Hughes has been charged with child abuse and first-degree murder of her son. People reported that it was not clear if she had entered a plea.
