On January 25, 2022, CBS renewed Young Sheldon for a 6th and 7th season. The official Instagram handle of Young Sheldon also confirmed the renewal of the series aiming for the 2022 fall schedule on the CBS network, and quoted, “There’s still more Season 5 to come, but in case you needed a reminder— we’ll be back for even more #YoungSheldon with Season 6 AND Season 7!” Take a look at the official announcement below:

According to the network, Young Sheldon Season 6 will be a part of CBS’s fall lineup for the 2022-2023 TV season. This indicates that it is likely that the upcoming season will return to TV screens sometime around September to October 2022. Just like the prior seasons have been consistent with the yearly time schedule on the network.

After more than four months of wait, the network has officially confirmed that the series will return this year on September 29, 2022, at 8/7c, Young Sheldon’s sixth season will debut with brand-new episodes on the CBS network. The comedy will be followed by Ghosts season 2, the new series So Help Me Todd, and CSI: Vegas Season 2 later that night.

The official Twitter handle of Young Sheldon also shared the update among its followers on June 23, 2022, quoting, “It’s official— the Coopers are back September 29th with season six of #YoungSheldon on @CBS and @paramountplus!” Take a look at the official post below:  

According to Variety, Kelly Kahl, president of CBS Entertainment, said, “‘Young Sheldon’ dominates the broadcast comedy landscape by over +2.5 million viewers and is the lynchpin of CBS’ top-rated Thursday comedy lineup. The humor, warmth, and heart exuded by the Cooper family is an undeniable hook for the millions of fans who tune in each week. We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.” 

She also added, “We’re excited to see what the next three seasons have in store for a slightly older Sheldon and all the Coopers.” More family conflict and difficult decisions referencing Sheldon’s recollections from The Big Bang Theory should be sprinkled throughout the series.

According to Deadline, we’ll be seeing more of Mandy McAllister in the upcoming sixth season of Young Sheldon. Emily Osment, who joined the fifth season of the CBS comedy as a recurring, has been promoted to series regular for Young Sheldon Season 6.

Osment’s Mandy McAllister is an attractive, strong-willed woman in her late twenties who is struggling with the discovery that she’s pregnant with Georgie’s (Montana Jordan) baby. She’s also dealing with the fact that Georgie lied to her about how young he is.

The other main cast members of the series are as follows: 

Iain Armitage as Sheldon Cooper: a child prodigy well-versed in various branches of mathematics and science. He states that he decided to pursue physics around the same time as the show began. While academically gifted, Sheldon sometimes lacks a full understanding of social cues and behaviors, in addition to having a sense of superiority over everyone around him due to his intelligence. 

Jim Parsons is the voice of adult Sheldon Cooper: who provides the perspective of an adult recalling his childhood. 

Zoe Perry as Mary Tucker Cooper: mother of Sheldon, Missy, and Georgie. She is very protective and patient with Sheldon but also struggles to understand him at times. She is a devout Southern Baptist, working at her local church, and sometimes objects to Sheldon’s atheism. 

Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr: Sheldon, Missy, and Georgie’s father; a Vietnam veteran; and the head football coach at Medford High. George does not share Sheldon’s intellect which sometimes leads others, especially Meemaw, to doubt his genetic relationship with Sheldon. 

Montana Jordan as George “Georgie” Cooper Jr: Sheldon and Missy’s older brother. Georgie resents the attention his parents pay to Sheldon. He does not do well at school and gets mocked and teased for it by the rest of the family, particularly Sheldon and Meemaw. 

Raegan Revord as Melissa “Missy” Cooper: Georgie’s younger sister, and Sheldon’s fraternal younger twin sister. She teases Sheldon along with Georgie, but not as much. She does not share Sheldon’s intelligence but is very perceptive. 

Annie Potts as Constance “Connie” Tucker: Sheldon, Missy, and Georgie’s maternal grandmother, whom they refer to as “Meemaw”. She is a fun-loving woman who can be sarcastic, and often mocks those around her, especially George. 

Matt Hobby as Pastor Jeff Difford: as the upbeat pastor at the Cooper family’s Baptist church. Like Mary, he too sometimes has friction with Sheldon’s irreligious side and often challenges Sheldon to explore their line of thought through logic exercises.

Wyatt McClure as Billy Sparks: the son of a neighbor to the Cooper family, whom his mother implies is in no danger of going to college. He was originally portrayed as Sheldon’s nemesis but becomes much friendlier early in the series. He has an unrequited crush on Missy.

In the Season 5 finale episode, fans finally get to see in which direction the series appears to be heading, for the upcoming season. The episode is titled, A Clogged Pore, A Little Spanish, And the Future, which was released on May 19, 2022. The episode is directed by Alex Reid and written by Steve Holland, Eric Kaplan, Yael Glouberman, Steven Molaro, Nick Bakay, and Nadiya Chettiar. 

The official synopsis of the episode states, “Sheldon struggles to cope with his first signs of puberty; Mary and George Sr. both hunt for new jobs; Georgie and Meemaw take a business trip across the border.”

In the episode, the viewers got to see that, George resigns after learning that Coach Wilkins received his job offer from the high school. George and Mary try their luck in the newspaper classifieds after realizing that working at Dale’s store won’t be enough to make ends meet.

Mary later reveals she is desperate for one positive thing, which surprises George and leads to her landing a job working with Brenda Sparks at the bowling alley. Georgie decides to sell smokes in the gaming area in order to raise some additional cash for the baby. For a low-cost supply, Connie travels with him to Mexico.

Later, Sheldon had a nightmare in which he transforms into his parents, Connie and Georgie, both of whom appear to be unhappy grownups. Sheldon can be brought under control by Missy, who helps him concentrate on his adult goals and the opportunity to scientifically investigate this new stage of life.
