BTS’ J-Hope throws a pre-release bash for solo album Jack In The Box

J-Hope pre-release party

On July 15, BTS’ main dancer, J-Hope, released his debut studio album, Jack In The Box. The album is made up of ten songs, and its concept is based on the Greek myth of Pandora’s Box. The songs revolve around the old-school hip-hop genre and talk about work, worry about the future, and his belief that there is no such thing as bad people in the world.

The two lead singles of the album, More and Arson explore concepts such as irrational emotions, inappeasable person, and blind ambition.

Before the release of the album, J-Hope threw a launch party for Jack In The Box on July 14 on the top floor of the HYBE building. The party turned out to be a star-studded affair. Jin, Suga, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook were obviously present at the gala to show all their love and support to their beloved member. Other big names from the Korean entertainment industry also made it to the party, including TigerJK, HyunA, Dawn, BIBI, Yoon Mirae, Jessi, BIGBANG’s Taeyang, Uhm Jung Hwa, Sunmi, and many more.

Along with all the songs from J-Hope’s Jack In The Box, many international hits were played at the party, even BTS’ megahit Butter. ARMYs compared the big bash with a high-end club. Videos and pictures from the evening were very quick to go viral on all social media platforms. Guests were seen sharing pictures with all six members and, of course, the star of the show, J-Hope.

The album covers a wide range of concepts, while songs like = (Equal Sign) and Future are more on the brighter side. In the song What If… he talks about what the world would be like with no hope or dreams. Safety Zone written by GHSTLOOP, Supreme Boi, and J-Hope himself, is about finding oneself, a place to receive comfort, a place to feel safe.

Following BigHit Music announcing that BTS members will be taking a break from group activities in order to focus on their solo ventures, J-Hope is the first member to release a solo project. He is also set to take the stage on the final day of the music festival on July 31 alongside superstars like The Kid Laroi, Green Day, and others.

Initially wanting to be a tennis player, J-Hope was part of an underground dance team called Neuron, and has always shown a keen interest in dance. He also took dance lessons in Gwangju Music Academy, which was also once home to 2NE1’s Minzy and TVXQ’s Yunho.

J-Hope had first auditioned for JYP Entertainment but couldn’t make it past a few rounds, which led him to audition for Big Hit Entertainment (now BigHit Music). The agency was quick to notice his potential and signed him. What fans might be shocked to know is that he almost didn’t make it to the final lineup of BTS. It was RM who persuaded the company that the group needed a member like J-Hope, and he was finally added to the group as a rapper and dancer and also as a part of the rapper trio, including Suga and RM.
