Imagine how tough it is to think like a criminal to predict their next move. Mindhunter is an American Psychological crime thriller based on the real crime book Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit published in 1995. Thanks to Joe Penhall for delivering a series like Mindhunter. After the success of two seasons. Now fans are eager to know when the next season is gonna released. More buzzing doubts among the fans are ‘Mindhunter Season 3: Is It renewed or canceled?’
In both the Mindhunter seasons, we know how Holden Ford & Bill Tench, FBI Agents try to catch the criminal by thinking like the villain’s minds to figure out their next move. They study the damaged psyches to try to understand the serial killer’s mentality to catch their next move. Before we jump right into it let’s do a quick tour of the Mindhunter series.
The amazing cast who gave their characters lives were Jonathan Groff as a special agent in FBI BSU as Holden Ford, Hott McCallany as a special agent in the FBI as Bill Tench, Anna Torv as a psychology professor as Wendy Carr, Debbie Mitford as a graduate student in sociology as Hanna Gross, Cotter Smith as the assistant director as Robert Shepard & others. All of the cast members gave a remarkable performance, while we fans are waiting for them to reappear. But are they going to come back?
Mindhunter Season 3: Is it renewed or canceled?
Mindhunter has been Netflix’s most-watched series of all time, however ever since the show’s first episode debuted on October 13, 2017. Mindhunters have given us goosebumps after goosebumps, and later after the success of the first season, Netflix announced the renewal of Season 2, which got premiered on August 16, 2019.

However, it’s been a long time since the second episode finale & we haven’t heard anything about the renewal for season 3. In January 2020, Netflix did announce the potential of Season 3 however, it wasn’t confirmed since Fincher was busy with other projects and Mindhunter Season 3 was on hold. Although in a recent turn of events, Fincher announced that Mindhunter Season 3 is not getting renewed.
David Fincher has confirmed that there will be no Season 3 of Mindhunter. “It’s a particularly expensive series & in the eyes of Netflix, we haven’t attracted a large enough audience to justify such an investment.”
He further said in the interview with Le Journal du Dimanche (French Magazine),” I’m very proud of the first two seasons. But it’s an expensive show & in the eyes of Netflix, we didn’t attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment. I don’t blame them, they took risks to get the show off the ground, gave me the means to do Mank the way I wanted to do it & they allowed me to venture down new paths with The Killer. It’s a blessing to be able to work with people who are capable of boldness.”
I think it’s safe to say that Netflix’s expectations regarding Mindhunter didn’t get fulfilled & our dream to watch another season of the mindblowing series has shattered along with it. Hopefully, we can still convince ourselves by rewatching both seasons before it gets removed from Netflix.
