Sanjay Leela Bhansali is one of those directors who is on every actor’s list of to-work-with. However, not many know that Bhansali is a strict director.
This revelation has been made by actor Ranbir Kapoor, who has worked with him on several projects. While talking about the early days of his career, Ranbir shared the experience of working with Bhansali.
Ranbir said that when he was working as an assistant director in the film ‘Black’, Bhansali used to treat him as an assistant and not as a star kid.
He said, “When I assisted Mr (Sanjay Leela) Bhansali (on ‘Black’), he used to really treat me as an assistant director. I used to be kneeling down for hours, he used to hit us, he used to abuse us… that only hardens you and prepares you for the world. I am sure my dada ji (Raj Kapoor) must have been the same.”
He added, “You don’t learn anything unless you come to know about your mistakes during work. Scolds and abuses make you strong. Strictness is necessary during work. That’s how you move forward.”
This is not the only memory Ranbir has of Bhansali, in a previous interview, Ranbir had said, “Mr Bhansali doesn’t do any scene in less than 45 takes. For towel dance in ‘Saawariya’, I gave 45 to 50 takes. My back was really broken, but Mr Bhansali was only satisfied after 70 takes.”
For the uninitiated, Ranbir made his acting debut with Bhansali’s Saawariya. This film was very special for Ranbir, as it is his first film, through which he got a chance to step into this glamorous industry and make an appearance on the big screen.
While the film may have not have been a success at the box office, Ranbir’s acting and style won a million hearts. That’s one of the reasons why he got the Best Debut Actor Award for the film. ‘Saawariya’ was released in 2007.
Ranbir is making headlines for the much-awaited movie ‘Brahmastra’. He will be seen opposite rumoured girlfriend Alia Bhatt. Amitabh Bachchan is also playing a key role in the film. Apart from this, Ranbir will also play the lead role in director Luv Ranjan’s film. In this, Shraddha Kapoor will be seen sharing the screen with him.
Ranbir is also associated with the gangster drama film ‘Animal’, in which Parineeti Chopra is also playing an important role.
‘Shamshera’ is also one of the much-awaited films of Ranbir, which is being produced under the banner of Yash Raj Films.
